Origin Green Sustainability Programme

Farming oysters already is one of the best methods of seafood production sustainability as farmed oysters support the restoration of wild populations, they filter their food from the water, and do not require any input of feed from farmers. That being said, we constantly strive to implement more sustainable practices to our day-to-day operations on the farm. Over the years, there have been numerous modernisations done on the farm and machinery, and we regularly make sure that our equipment is up to date. At the moment, there is building work being carried out to extend our farm building, separate our grading and packing area, and completing our visitor centre. We are particularly proud of expanding our business in this way so that we can teach guests how to handle, prepare, and enjoy oysters. For almost 10 years now, we have been part of the Origin Green Certification by Bord Bia. Every year, we have to submit a revised business plan which focuses on sustainability targets and how to o

Carlingford Oyster Company was established in 1974 by Peter Louet Feisser and is currently managed by his son Kian and daughter-in-law Mary.

The company employs 18 staff and produces 200 tonnes of oysters annually.

The oysters are grown in the grade A classification waters of Carlingford Lough and dispatched mainly in Ireland, UK, France and Asia.

Why Us

Here at Carlingford Oyster Company, we are farming exquisite Pacific Oysters, which takes hard work and dedication since it takes three years to grow oysters from seed to full size. We are especially proud of our Premium Louet-Feisser oysters, which are hand selected and cultivated in suspended swinging baskets, guarantying a better shape shell and a high meat content, which is one of nature’s real treasures. They are rich in protein and low in fat with exceptionally high levels of trace elements such as iodine, iron, selenium copper and zinc. Coupled with the unspoilt growing conditions available in the lough, this is as natural and pure as food can be. As a small family-run business, it fills us with a lot of pride to know that people and restaurants from all over the world reach out to us and ask to be supplied by us. In fact, we have to be extremely selective with customer acquisition since the demand surpasses our supply of oysters. Our oysters are frequently praised in food magazines, by our customers and visitors, as well as by the numerous judges of the awards we have won, such as Great Taste, Blas na hEireann, Golden Fork, and Cloudy Bay British Oysters Championship. As one of the Blas nah Eireann judges commented: “It is hard to imagine better tasting, better looking oysters.”
