Skellig Distillers Ltd. was established in 2017 by June O’Connell, Patrick Sugrue and Patrick Cooney, with the vision of creating a whiskey and gin distillery and helping revitalise the working economy in the Skellig area. A vacant industrial premises in Cahersiveen was converted into the Skellig Six18 Distillery where production of Skellig Six18 Pot Still Gin commenced in 2019. 2020 brought with it the opening of a visitor experience at the distillery and saw Skellig Six18 Pot Still Gin gain national distribution. Skellig Irish Whiskey was launched in 2022 with growth experienced in several export markets since.

Our independent and locally owned distillery sits at the very edge of Ireland, where the wild Atlantic meets the rugged beauty of Kerry. Located in the town of Cahersiveen, the strength of our community, and the warmth of our welcome are as famous as the features of the surrounding Wild Atlantic Way.

In the 6th century, monks on rugged Skellig Michael in Atlantic Ocean carved six hundred eighteen steps to their monastery at peak of the rock. There were no shortcuts they could take, with the monks demonstrating exceptional character and resilience in their effort. This feat, their journey inspires Skellig Six18 today on its journey to be a super-premium global spirits brand. In addition to being an historic UNESCO World Heritage Site, Skellig Michael featured in recent Star Wars movies.
